The Purranque municipality has launched emergency measures to address a severe water shortage in the Crucero sector, which currently impacts 216 families.

Mayor Alicia Villar confirmed that the local government has established a collaboration agreement with the municipality of Puerto Octay. This partnership facilitates the delivery of water to the affected area via tanker trucks.

The Mayor emphasized that the shortage stems from environmental factors rather than mechanical issues.

“It is not that a pump has broken or that rural drinking water is leaking; it is something more of a natural and climatological nature,” Villar said.

In addition to the tanker deliveries, the municipality is installing new water storage tanks to support local services. A 1,250-liter tank will be placed at La Paz School, while a 1,000-liter tank will be installed at the sector's local health post.

The administration is also coordinating with the Directorate of Hydraulic Works (DOH) and the Presidential Delegation. These agencies are working to identify a more stable and permanent solution for the community.

One primary objective involves the creation of a new water extraction point. However, the Mayor noted that this process requires completing several administrative stages.

“The work is much greater because we have to find instances where we can have a well with more flow,” Villar stated.

The municipality continues to provide direct support to the Rural Drinking Water Committee (APR) to help manage the current supply. The administration intends to use resources from the Presidential Delegation to ensure all residents in the Crucero area receive adequate water.

“We have to work together with the APR and the locality of Crucero because there is a water deficit,” the Mayor said.
