Nine students were involved in violent unrest this Tuesday near the Instituto Nacional, at the intersection of Arturo Prat and Alameda in Santiago.

According to police, the group used 14 Molotov cocktails and two fireworks during the disturbance.

Due to the severity of the incident, the school activated its security protocols to ensure the safety of the school community.

Legal action and suspension of classes

The Santiago Centro Local Public Education Service (SLEP) confirmed that a preventive dismissal order has been issued. The measure is intended to protect the safety of students, teachers, and school staff.

“As a Local Service, we condemn any act of violence that disrupts the coexistence and normal functioning of our educational communities,” the organization stated in a press release.

The SLEP also announced it will pursue legal action against those responsible for the incidents. The statement emphasized a commitment to upholding the right to education within a safe environment.

Meanwhile, the General Inspector of Instituto Nacional reported that morning classes were suspended as a precautionary measure.

As of now, police have not reported any arrests or injuries following the clashes in the streets.
