Journalist Paula Escobar reacted with outrage after hearing a joke by comedian Luis Slimming targeting broadcaster Sergio Rojas. The incident occurred during a YouTube livestream of the program 'Qué te lo digo,' specifically during a commercial break segment of 'El Desestrece.'
The comedian played an audio clip featuring a joke based on a fictional menu. In the clip, Slimming said: “There was a menu item that was a 'budget homo' version of Sergio Rojas. It comes with old fries, and nobody wants it.”
Escobar immediately confronted her fellow panelists, demanding that legal action be taken regarding the comment. “Who said that? We need to report it (...) That joke is the most homophobic thing I have ever heard,” the journalist stated bluntly.
Reactions from those involved
For his part, Sergio Rojas downplayed the offense, though he did not defend the content of the joke. “I don't find it offensive at all, but I don't find it funny either. I think Luis is capable of much better,” the broadcaster noted.
Luis Slimming himself explained that although the joke had production approval, it was omitted from the main television broadcast to avoid extending the segment. The comedian admitted he decided to tell the joke during the YouTube livestream because social media operates under different content standards.
The joke was part of a series of jabs at various public figures, including Vanessa Kaiser and Gabriel Boric, which had been planned for an interview with Javiera Contador.
