President José Antonio Kast appointed two new regional officials for the Valparaíso region this Tuesday, according to biobiochile.cl. The appointments include Mariol Luan, who will head the Regional Ministerial Secretariat for Health, and Carolina Sangüesa, who will take charge of the Labor and Social Security portfolio.

Manuel Millones, the region's presidential delegate, backed the arrival of the new officials, highlighting their technical expertise. The Secretary of State noted that these appointments aim to address the urgent issues currently facing the region.

Track record and regional challenges

Regarding Carolina Sangüella, Millones emphasized her background in public administration. “She has extensive experience in public service. She previously served as the Regional Director of Sernac and as acting Regional Director of Serviu,” the delegate stated, as reported by biobiochile.cl.

The regional official expressed his hope that Sangüesa's management will help revitalize the local labor market. The primary goal will be to boost employment in the area following periods of economic uncertainty.

Meanwhile, the new regional health minister, Dr. Mariol Luan, will face a complex healthcare agenda. Millones indicated that the professional will need to manage multiple simultaneous health crises.

“She will be responsible for managing the winter vaccination campaign, as well as the situation in Rapa Nui regarding dengue cases, hanta virus prevention, monitoring avian flu, and overseeing health promotion and prevention plans, among other issues,” the presidential delegate said.

The delegate concluded his statement by praising the suitability of the new leadership, asserting that both professionals are well-equipped to handle the current challenges regarding unemployment and public health in Valparaíso.
