Former minister Karla Rubilar has backed recent statements made by President José Antonio Kast, who leveled heavy criticism against Gabriel Boric's administration during the Renovación Nacional General Council, according to cooperativa.cl.
Kast used the platform to attack the previous administration, claiming it left the country in a critical state across several key sectors. The President described the outcomes in employment, economic growth, education, and healthcare as a 'disaster,' the news outlet reported.
In response, the government spokesperson explained that the President's tone is a reaction to the opposition's attitude. Rubilar noted that the harshest criticisms and the refusal to legislate are coming from those who held power just a month and a half ago.
"It is a human reaction to something quite specific: that the harshest criticisms [...] come from those who were governing only a month and a half ago," Rubilar stated, according to cooperativa.cl.
The former minister added that she understands Kast's frustration with a political sector that, despite having the power to implement changes over the last four years, is now rejecting dialogue in Congress.
Opposition response
While validating the sentiment behind the speech, Rubilar attempted to distance herself from the aggressive nature of the rhetoric. The spokesperson emphasized her desire for a more constructive tone in the dialogue between the Government and the opposition.
Meanwhile, Deputy Raúl Leiva (PS) sharply rejected the President's manner of expression. Leiva criticized Kast for using language more suited to a campaign trail than to his current role as President of the Republic.
The lawmaker argued that the President is seeking to discredit the current administration without offering concrete proposals. "What he is doing is discrediting the previous government under circumstances where he has no proposals, for instance, regarding security," Leiva asserted, according to the report.
