The Chilean Meteorological Directorate (DMC) has issued a weather alert for the Antofagasta Region, forecasting moderate to strong winds that could reach gusts of up to 100 km/h.

The weather event is expected to trigger sandstorms across the affected areas. According to reports from cnnchile.com, these extreme conditions will be concentrated primarily in the Andean highlands and the Puna sector.

Technical experts explained that this weather event is the result of a “jet stream.”

Authorities have detailed that the impact of the winds will begin on the afternoon of Monday, April 27. These adverse conditions are expected to persist until the early hours of Tuesday, April 28.
