The Santiago Municipal Theater has officially launched "Tinta Fresca," a musical composition mentorship program designed to foster emerging talent across Chile and Latin America.

The project provides technical and professional development through workshops alongside the Santiago Philharmonic Orchestra and the Municipal Chamber Orchestra. The ultimate goal is to integrate one of the resulting compositions into the institution's official seasonal programming.

A Comprehensive Training Process

Paolo Bortolameolli, Chief Conductor of the Santiago Philharmonic Orchestra, noted that this project is one of three commissions commissioned by the orchestra for the 2026 season. According to Bortolameolli, the initiative underscores the theater's deep commitment to musical creation.

“We are very excited about this initiative, as it not only invites young composers to participate but also offers them a truly unique training experience,” said Bortolameolli.

The call is open to individuals aged 18 to 35, including both Chilean nationals and foreign residents with permanent residency in the country. Applicants must not have previously premiered works with professional orchestras and must be available for in-person sessions between May and September 2026.

An evaluation committee will select five creators to participate in the program. These composers will work directly with Bortolameolli, musicians from both orchestras, collaborating composers, and the Theater's Musical Archive.

The program includes the commission of two works: one for a chamber ensemble and another for a full orchestra. Participants will receive guidance from expert composers and curators from the musical archive.

“The goal is to discover new talent and foster creativity through a holistic approach, directly linking musical performance with the creative process,” Bortolameolli added.

The selected work will premiere as part of the “Symphonic Dances” concert, scheduled for September 12 and 14, 2026. The deadline for applications is April 17.
