A group of opposition lawmakers has formally requested the leadership of the Chamber of Deputies to file a criminal complaint against Senator Camila Flores. The request comes amid an ongoing investigation into alleged fraud against the Treasury and the misappropriation of public funds.
The request was submitted via a letter led by Representative Luis Cuello, with support from Deputies Gael Yeomans, Juan Santana, Ana María Gazmuri, and Bernardo Salinas.
The legislators addressed the request to the Speaker of the House, Jorge Alessandri Vergara. In the letter, the lawmakers invoked the legal authority of the Chamber's presidency to pursue criminal action in cases of potential misappropriation of funds.
Investigation into use of parliamentary allowances
The investigation is being led by the Valparaíso Regional Prosecutor's Office. Proceedings began following an anonymous complaint filed in October 2025.
The judicial process is currently under seal. The investigation involves the Regional Anti-Corruption Unit and the OS9 division of the Chilean National Police (Carabineros).
The evidence under investigation points to potential irregularities in the management of parliamentary allowances. The suspected scheme may have operated across various legislative terms during Senator Flores's tenure.
The amounts involved in the investigation could reach 300 million pesos. Prosecutors are working to determine if there was a pattern of repeated fraud against the Treasury.
The opposition deputies emphasized the importance of ensuring that funds allocated for legislative duties are used correctly. Radio Biobío first reported on the lawmakers' actions.
