A police operation was launched this Monday at Liceo Victorino Lastarrola in the Providencia district after Molotov cocktails and fireworks were detected inside the school.
Faculty members alerted authorities after finding incendiary devices in one of the school's bathrooms. Given the dangerous nature of the items, personnel from the Special Operations Group (GOPE) were called to the scene to safely handle and secure the materials.
The day was also marked by incidents of violence among the student body. Video footage captured students attempting to quell disturbances, including an instance where a fire extinguisher was thrown at other classmates.
Two minors involved
Authorities have confirmed that two minors, aged 13 and 15, are directly linked to the discovery of the dangerous items. Both youths were released into the care of their parents following the police intervention.
Colonel Claudio Rosales reported that the minors were in possession of overalls, fireworks, and other incendiary materials. “Carabineros arrived at the scene in a timely manner to investigate the situation,” the officer stated.
The Family Court is currently reviewing the case involving the students. Meanwhile, police are conducting investigations to determine if other students were involved in the incidents.
As of now, neither minor has been formally detained, but the investigation remains open to identify any other individuals responsible for the unrest at the school.
