The Villarrica Criminal Court has found Sergio Zapata Camus, a former local magistrate, guilty of repeated sexual abuse and rape of a child.
The offenses took place between 2008 and 2014. During this period, the victim—a direct relative of the defendant—was between 5 and 9 years old.
According to evidence presented during the trial, the attacks occurred at the former magistrate's summer home, located in the Pedregoso area.
Sentence sought by the Prosecution
Prosecutor Ítalo Ortega presented the indictment, detailing the severity of the assaults suffered by the minor while under the care of Zapata Camus.
Following the conclusion of the trial, the court issued a guilty verdict against the 70-year-old retired lawyer.
The court must now determine the final sentence. The Prosecution has requested a total prison sentence of 30 years for the former judge.
This request consists of 12 years for sexual abuse and 18 years for the charge of rape.
