The Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications (MTT) has opened the application process for the 2026 Driver Subsidy, a program designed to ease operating costs for drivers who rely on their vehicles for their livelihoods.

The program provides up to $100,000 per month between April and September 2026. The total cumulative amount for beneficiaries can reach $600,000.

This state aid is exclusively intended to fund fuel purchases. According to MTT regulations, the funds may be used to purchase gasoline, diesel, compressed natural gas (CNG), and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for vehicle use.

Requirements and Application Process

The benefit is specifically aimed at taxi, shared taxi, and school transport drivers. To access the subsidy, applicants must complete the process digitally.

Applications are managed through the ministry's official platform. Users must log in as either the owner or the driver using their ClaveÚnica (digital ID) to select the corresponding vehicle and designate the beneficiary.

The system automatically verifies credentials and provides an immediate application result. Once approved, payments will be deposited directly into the BancoEstado CuentaRUT account.

The Ministry of Transport warned that while applications can be submitted after April, there will be no retroactive payments. The number of installments a driver receives will depend strictly on the month they finalize their application.

There is also a suspension clause tied to international market conditions. The benefit will be discontinued if the monthly average price of Brent crude oil, as reported by the National Energy Commission, falls below US$80.
