The National Health Fund (Fonasa) has launched a review of its members that will modify user classifications based on their contribution status. The measure will primarily impact those who have experienced prolonged periods without social security contributions.
This update is in compliance with Law No. 21.674, which requires the institution to align membership tiers with recorded income and contributions. The agency aims to adjust each individual's classification to reflect their current economic situation.
Loss of Provider Choice
The process will affect members in tiers B, C, or D who do not record health contributions for 12 consecutive months. The move to Tier A will be executed automatically through the institution's periodic audits.
Fonasa explained that the objective is “to adjust the membership tier according to changes in each person's monthly income.” This change in category implies a reduction in medical benefits.
Users transferred to Tier A will lose access to the 'Free Choice Modality,' preventing them from seeking care through private providers under agreement. However, they will maintain free coverage within the public health network.
To avoid these changes, the institution recommends checking contribution status through the Mi Fonasa platform using a Clave Única or by calling 600 360 3000. Self-employed workers can regularize their payments through Previred, while employees must coordinate the situation with their employers.
Pensioners should verify their status directly with their paying entity. Meanwhile, those with dependents must ensure their information remains up to date to avoid unexpected changes in coverage.
