The Valparaíso Regional Prosecutor's Office is investigating Senator Camila Flores (RN) for an alleged scheme to defraud the public treasury. The investigation focuses on the misappropriation of funds through the salaries of the senator's congressional advisors.
An anonymous complaint triggered the probe, alleging that the senator implemented a system to collect portions of her staff's pay. This practice, referred to by congressional employees as the "Flores quota," allegedly generated nearly $300 million over several years.
According to information reported by T13, the mechanism functioned by requiring advisors to hand over a percentage of their monthly earnings in cash. The senator allegedly used these diverted funds for personal use.
Coordination of the scheme
Prosecutors are specifically looking into the role of Yolanda Olfos, who served as a secretary for Flores during her time as a deputy. Olfos is accused of acting as the primary intermediary in the operation.
The investigation suggests that Olfos coordinated the collection of the cash from the advisors. She allegedly managed the movement of the money to ensure the system remained functional.
The alleged financial irregularities have reportedly spanned at least seven years. This timeframe covers the period when Flores served as a deputy in the lower house before her election to the Senate.
The investigation by the Public Ministry centers on how the salaries of trusted advisors were diverted. The prosecution is examining the specific mechanism used to ensure that a portion of the official wages reached the senator's personal accounts.
The "Flores quota" involved a systematic process where employees would return a portion of their compensation. This cash was then handled by Olfos before reaching its final destination.
The Valparaíso Prosecutor's Office is currently analyzing the evidence provided in the complaint to confirm the scale of the fraud. The investigation aims to determine how the diverted salaries were integrated into the senator's personal finances.
