Two people were killed and three others were seriously injured on Monday when a car drove into a central pedestrian zone in the eastern German city of Leipzig, according to reports.
Leipzig Mayor Burkhard Jung confirmed the fatalities and the serious injuries sustained by three other individuals during the incident.
Local police have arrested the driver in connection with the crash. The suspect has been identified as a 33-year-old man holding German citizenship.
The incident follows a series of similar vehicle-ramming incidents reported in Germany in recent years, according to France 24.
