An 18-year-old man was arrested Friday afternoon after being caught with a weapon and selling drugs near the Duoc UC campus in Maipú, according to reports from latercera.com.
The incident took place around 6:15 p.m. at the intersection of Esquina Blanca Avenue and Primera Transversal. Security personnel at the higher education center raised the alarm regarding the individual's presence.
Campus guards noticed that the subject was not only selling illegal substances but was also carrying what appeared to be a firearm. The young man's suspicious activities and attire caught the attention of the security staff.
Pursuit and arrest
Following the report, officers from the Criminal Investigation Section (SIP) of the 29th Maipú Police Station rushed to the scene. Upon noticing the arrival of the officers, the subject attempted to evade the police checkpoint, leading to a brief foot chase.
However, Carabineros managed to intercept him just outside the educational center. Once apprehended, officers proceeded to search his belongings.
During the search, police discovered a blank-firing weapon and 12-gauge shotgun shells among his personal items. Police reports indicate that the detainee has no prior criminal record.
The individual was taken to the police station and placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office to determine his legal status.
