Donald Trump has quietly deleted an AI-generated image from his Truth Social profile after facing intense criticism from religious leaders and conservative allies for depicting him with Jesus Christ-like features.
The post, which remained online for over twelve hours, showed Trump with illuminated hands healing a patient in a hospital bed, with a demon visible in the background.
While progressive critics attacked the imagery, the most significant backlash came from within Trump's own political ecosystem.
Conservative commentator Riley Gaines expressed confusion over the post, warning, "God will not be made an object of ridicule."
Daily Wire's Megan Basham labeled the imagery "scandalous blasphemy," while Isabel Brown described the post as "repugnant and unacceptable."
Even staunch Trump ally and former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene distanced herself from the post, stating she "completely denounces" the image and would pray against it.
Trump defends imagery
When pressed by reporters regarding the deleted post, Trump refused to apologize for the content.
"It wasn't a representation, it was me," Trump said. He later clarified his stance by adding, "I am supposed to be a doctor who makes people better... and I make people much better."
The incident follows a period of heightened tension between Trump and the Vatican. Hours before the image surfaced, Trump attacked Pope Leo XIV, calling him "weak on crime" and "terrible on foreign policy."
Trump specifically criticized the Pope's recent comments regarding the war in Iran. He stated he does not want a Pope who critiques the U.S. president while he performs the duties he was elected to do.
No official apology or explanation regarding the removal of the image has been issued by the Trump campaign or the White House.
