The Colina Criminal Court has decided to reschedule the trial for the murder of French citizen Dimitri Weiler following the absence of one of the defense attorneys. The proceedings, which were set to begin this Monday, will now take place on May 12.
The postponement follows the failure to appear of Santiago Borgoño Leyton, who is representing the accused. Borgoño is the only adult among the five defendants charged in the crime, which occurred in the Chicureo area in February 2025.
The other four suspects are minors identified by their initials: V.F.C.C., B.I.R.G., S.B.B.G., and L.H.A.B.F. The case shocked the community following the brutal attack that claimed Weiler's life and left his spouse with serious injuries.
The leaked information theory
Plaintiff attorney Ciro Colombara questioned the defendants' account of how they located the victims' residence. He noted that the precision of the attack suggests that information may have been leaked beforehand.
“The version provided regarding how they arrived at the house is not credible. It is obvious, common sense dictates, that there was very precise data or information,” Colombara stated.
The attorney maintains that the investigation must look deeper into the potential involvement of third parties. According to his statement, there are other responsible individuals who have not yet been identified by the justice system.
The lawsuit even points toward an ongoing investigation involving former security guards from the Colina Municipality. “There is a well-known investigation regarding the involvement of former security guards... and we believe that this lead has not been properly investigated,” the attorney asserted.
The incident occurred in the early hours of February 28. The defendants entered the home armed with what appeared to be firearms and sharp objects to intimidate the family.
The Prosecution is taking a hardline stance in its indictment. It is seeking 10-year prison sentences in a closed regime for three of the minors and five years for the fourth. For the only adult, the Public Prosecutor's Office is seeking life imprisonment.
During the trial, 37 witnesses, 23 documents, and more than 60 pieces of physical and expert evidence will be presented to bring clarity to the crime.
