Accident scene in Santiago

A passenger in a rideshare vehicle is fighting for her life following a violent traffic accident in the Santiago commune. The incident involved a collision between two cars at the intersection of Tarapacá and San Francisco streets.

According to reports from cooperativa.cl, the first vehicle, which was on an Uber trip along Tarapacá Street, was struck by a second vehicle traveling south on San Francisco. The impact was so severe that the woman traveling in the rideshare car was ejected from the vehicle.

The severity of her injuries has left the victim in critical condition. "She remains injured and in critical condition at the former Posta Central," stated Carabineros Captain Henry González.

Suspects flee the scene

Following the collision, the occupants of the second vehicle fled the scene immediately. Captain González detailed that, according to the affected driver's account, approximately five adult men fled on foot after the crash.

At the scene, investigators found an abandoned car with a broken window. The identity of the occupants of this second vehicle is still under investigation.

According to preliminary information gathered by the news outlet, the individuals in the car that caused the crash could potentially be members of the Carabineros. However, this information must be officially confirmed by the Public Prosecutor's Office.

Personnel from the Traffic Accident Investigation Section (SIAT) are currently working at the site to determine liability in the case. Due to the ongoing forensic work, traffic remains suspended at the intersection of San Francisco and Tarapacá.
