The Cauquenes Criminal Court has issued a unanimous conviction against Sergio Maureira, a former music teacher at Colegio Providencia in Parral, for repeated sexual offenses against minors.

The ruling establishes the defendant's responsibility for acts of improper sexual abuse committed throughout 2023. The victims, who were between 4 and 5 years old, were identified during the judicial proceedings.

Evidence and Prosecution

Lead prosecutor Álvaro Muñoz presented evidence that substantiated the allegations. The investigation was based on complaints filed by parents and recorded video interviews with the children.

“We secured a conviction against a music teacher who committed acts of sexual significance to the detriment of four children,” Prosecutor Muñoz stated during the trial.

The Public Prosecutor's Office sought a sentence of 15 years in prison. The prosecution is also seeking a permanent ban on Maureira from holding any teaching position that involves contact with minors.

The defendant is currently held in pretrial detention at the Cauquenes Penitentiary Center. This precautionary measure has been in place since his formal indictment in November 2024.

The court has scheduled the reading of the final sentence for April 20. The final penalty to be served by the convicted man will be determined during that hearing.
