The Morena parliamentary group in Mexico City has expressed its opposition to the visit of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, President of the Community of Madrid, to the country. The ruling party labeled the Spanish leader's presence as a representation of the far-right and urged citizens to remain vigilant regarding her activities.
According to reports from eluniversal.com.mx, Díaz Ayuso's agenda in Mexico includes economic, political, and cultural meetings. A particular point of contention for the ruling party's caucus is a scheduled ceremony honoring Hernán Cortés.
"Isabel Díaz Ayuso comes to Mexico to pay tribute to those who destroyed entire civilizations. The same person who claims that indigenism is communism. The same person who represents the Spanish far-right," Morena CDMX stated via its social media channels.
Political opposition also questioned the lack of transparency regarding her interlocutors in Mexico. The parliamentary group publicly asked who she will be meeting and who her allies in the country are, asserting that they must not share a "classist and racist agenda."
Reactions from political figures and media
Senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña joined the criticism, labeling the President of the Community of Madrid as "super fascist."
During her stay, Díaz Ayuso visited the Basilica of Guadalupe. Through her account on X, the leader reported that the Primate Archbishop of Mexico requested prayers for the mothers of Spain and for the relationship between the two nations.
Journalist Sabina Berman also took to her platforms to mock the content of the visit. Berman noted that the Spanish leader's presence is part of a tribute to Cortés organized by the PAN party, calling the situation a "nonsense" that surpasses any comedy.
The original report by El Universal also highlighted the mention of Díaz Ayuso's agenda regarding the figure of Cortés and Morena's stance against the Madrid leader's ideology.
