Mexico's Ministry of the Interior (Segob) has categorically denied reports that the United States government is investigating Mario Delgado, the Secretary of Public Education (SEP), and Senator Adán Augusto López for alleged links to drug trafficking.

“The Ministry of the Interior clarifies: this information is false,” the agency posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, according to elfinanciero.com.mx.

The denial follows accusations circulated by commentator Mario Di Constanzo. These claims emerge amid heightened political tension following recent actions by the U.S. Department of Justice, which identified 10 officials and former officials from Sinaloa as allegedly providing protection to organized crime groups.

Uncertainty within Morena

Alongside this denial, the national leadership of the Morena party has maintained a wait-and-see approach regarding investigations involving former Sinaloa Governor Rubén Rocha Moya. The party stated it will not initiate any internal disciplinary proceedings against him until the Attorney General's Office (FGR) concludes its inquiries.

So far, the FGR has stated that the U.S. government has not presented conclusive evidence against those named, including Rocha Moya, according to reports from elfinanciero.com.mx.

Morena's General Secretary, Carolina Rangel, noted that while the party will not shield any members, its actions will be strictly limited to official resolutions and institutional evidence presented in court.

The party also acknowledged Rocha Moya's decision to take a leave of absence and waive his legal immunity, a move that leadership believes will facilitate the progress of legal investigations.

The current situation in Sinaloa has been described as an unprecedented event in the country. In response to the developments, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has asserted her defense of national sovereignty and demanded that due process be respected in all related cases.
