A 35-year-old man, identified as Sebastián Asencio Álvarez, has died after being struck by a vehicle while moving livestock along the road to Lago Chapo, in the Puerto Montt commune.

The accident occurred near the Puente Colorado bridge. Firefighters and paramedics from the Emergency Medical Care Service (SAMU) spent approximately 40 minutes attempting to resuscitate the victim at the scene.

Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Ongoing investigation

The Carabineros’ Traffic Accident Investigation Section (SIAT) arrived at the scene to begin an inquiry. Experts are working to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision.

During the investigation, the road to Lago Chapo was closed for nearly two hours. The closure affected the stretch between the Puente Colorado sector and the end of the route.

The incident also resulted in injuries to the livestock the man was transporting. Traffic authorities are continuing to gather evidence to determine liability in the case.
