Police arrested a 25-year-old man on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in a double parricide in the town of Llollement, located in the San Antonio commune of the Valparaíso Region, according to cooperativa.cl.
The suspect reportedly used a knife to attack his parents, both of whom were approximately 45 years old. Authorities stated the attack began as an incident of domestic violence.
Investigators arrived at the scene to find two deceased individuals, a man and a woman. Both victims showed various sharp-force injuries, according to police reports.
Investigation details
Pablo Alegría, commissioner of the PDI's San Antonio Homicide Brigade, confirmed the suspect's identity and relationship to the victims.
"Two deceased persons were found, male and female, both adults, who upon external police recognition presented different sharp-force injuries," Alegría said.
The commissioner further detailed that investigators established the responsibility of a suspect who is the son of the victims. "It was established that the defendant is the material author of the injuries against the victims, having killed both his mother and father," Alegría added.
The suspect has been placed at the disposal of the Guarantee Court for a detention control hearing. According to the outlet, the individual will face formal charges for the crime of double parricide.
