London police arrested a man on Wednesday after two people were stabbed in Golders Green, a neighborhood in north London with a large Jewish population, according to reports from France 24.
Community security organization Shomrim reported that a man was seen running with a knife and attempting to stab members of the public. Shomrim officers managed to detain the suspect using a taser, the group stated on X.
Emergency services treated the two victims at the scene. Photos circulating online showed medical personnel attending to a victim lying on the street.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer addressed the House of Commons regarding the incident, describing the attack as "deeply concerning."
A pattern of violence
The stabbing follows a recent wave of anti-Semitic attacks across the capital. France 24 reports that London police have arrested more than two dozen people recently as part of investigations into attacks on Jewish-linked premises.
These incidents include the torching of ambulances and attempted arson attacks on synagogues. Authorities are currently investigating possible links to Iran, as the pro-Iranian group Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiyya has claimed responsibility for some recent attacks on social media.
British officials have previously warned that Iran may be using criminal proxies to conduct hostile activities within the UK. This spike in violence follows the October 2023 Hamas assault on Israel, which led to increased tensions and attacks across Britain.
Last year, the most severe anti-Semitic incident in the country occurred in Manchester, where two Jewish worshippers were killed during Yom Kippur.
