Former Congressman Cristián Labbé has announced his resignation from the Libertarian National Party (PNL), citing profound disagreements with the leadership of Johannes Kaiser, according to BioBioChile.

Labbé explained that his departure stems from the party board prioritizing personal interests over a collective strategy. The former lawmaker noted that he learned through the press that the party would not be joining the ranks of the governing coalition or José Antonio Kast's administration.

“Basically, it comes down to this: when I express my opinion regarding the decisions made by the PNL leadership... I believe it is a mistake not to be part of, or an active partner in, José Antonio Kast's government,” Labbé stated in an interview with the Chilean news outlet.

The former UDI member criticized the lack of political experience among current leaders, arguing that the decision to avoid public administration was a missed opportunity to cultivate new leadership and administrative expertise.

Criticism of Right-Wing Management

In addition to leaving the PNL, Labbante leveled criticisms at the Kast administration, despite declaring his political affinity for his project. The former lawmaker questioned the lack of political direction and the communication issues observed during the first month and a half of management.

In this context, the former congressman cited the administration's anxiety regarding the Reconstruction Project, also known as the Miscellaneous Law. “They tried to push through a tax reform, and Congress got tangled up in it,” Labbé remarked.

Regarding the national political landscape, Labbé dismissed the idea that the Chile Vamos coalition has the capacity to stabilize the current situation, arguing that the bloc has been weakened by its performance in recent presidential and parliamentary elections.

Finally, the former lawmaker addressed the right wing's stance on human rights. Labbé argued that the traditional right has abandoned this ground and that the Chile Vamos coalition “betrayed itself” by denying its role during the Augusto Pinochet dictatorship.

“One of the major problems over the last 50 years is that the traditional right—meaning Chile Vamos—lost the battle over human rights. They abandoned it,” the former member concluded.
