A Seasonal Support for Seniors

As the colder months approach, the Chilean government has officially announced the details for the 2026 Winter Bonus (Bono de Invierno). This non-taxable, non-deductible financial aid is designed to assist older adults in managing seasonal expenses. For this year, the government has set the payment amount at $81,257 CLP.

Unlike many other government programs that require a formal application process, the Winter Bonus is granted automatically. Eligible seniors will receive the funds directly alongside their pension payments for the month of May, ensuring that the assistance reaches those in need without the burden of extra paperwork.

Understanding Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for this benefit, applicants must be at least 65 years old by May 1, 2026. Beyond the age requirement, beneficiaries must fall into one of several specific categories established by the authorities. These include:

Pensioners from the Institute of Social Security (IPS), the Institute of Labor Security (ISL), Dipreca, Capredena, or mutualities who receive a pension lower than $231,440 CLP (for those 75 and older).Pensioners within the AFP system who receive a minimum pension with a state guarantee.Beneficiaries of the Universal Guaranteed Pension (PGU) who do not receive any other form of pension.Recipients of specific reparation pensions. * Individuals receiving the Old Age Solidarity Pension Supplement or the PGU, provided their total monthly pension amount remains under the defined threshold for those over 75.

How to Verify Your Payment

The most efficient way for citizens to confirm their status is through the official ChileAtiende portal. By entering their national identification number (RUT), beneficiaries can instantly verify if they are eligible for the 2026 disbursement.

For those who prefer personalized assistance, the government has provided several alternative channels. Citizens can visit any ChileAtiende branch in person, call the 101 information line between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM (Monday through Friday), or utilize the 'Videoatención' service, which allows for a live video consultation with a government representative during business hours.

Optimizing the Receipt of Funds

The Institute of Social Security (IPS) has encouraged beneficiaries to streamline the payment process by opting for direct bank deposits rather than physical collection. This can be arranged through the ChileAtiende digital platform using a ClaveÚnica, via video consultation, or by visiting a local office. By making this switch, seniors can ensure a safer and more convenient experience when receiving their benefits.
