The new Hungarian government, led by Peter Magyar, is expected to cease its obstruction of aid to Ukraine, according to a geopolitical expert.

Speaking to France 2 . . . Lukáš Macek, Director of the Greater Europe project at the Jacques Delors Centre, noted that while the administration will likely stop blocking vital assistance, it will still present challenges regarding Ukraine's future within the European Union.

"[Hungary] will be a tough partner, but a partner nonetheless" Macek said regarding the issue of Ukrainian accession to the EU.

A shift in Budapest

The prediction follows the recent political upheaval in Hungary where Viktor Orban was unseated from power. The transition marks a significant departure from the previous administration's stance on regional security and EU relations.

Macek suggests that while the era of active obstruction may be ending, the Magyar-led government will maintain a firm stance on the terms of Ukraine's integration into the European bloc.

The shift in leadership comes after a period of intense political change in Budapest, as the new movement led by Magyar seeks to distance the country from the previous administration's ties to Russia and its autocratic trajectory.
