A drone attack originating from Iran caused a fire at a major oil industry zone in the United Arab Emirates on Monday, according to authorities. The strike hit the Fujairah oil zone, causing flames to break out within the industrial area.

While the fire occurred, the UAE military separately intercepted three Iranian missiles over its waters. A fourth missile missed its target and crashed into the sea, according to reporting from France 24.

Regional tensions and naval disputes

The incident follows a period of heightened tension in the Strait of Hormuz. Al Jazeera reported that the United States military has denied claims made by Iran that a US frigate was hit during recent operations.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced a naval mission intended to 'guide' stranded ships through the region. However, Tehran has characterized such missions as violations of existing ceasefires, according to Al Jazeera.

Escalation in Lebanon

In a separate theater of conflict, Israel has intensified its airstrikes in southern Lebanon. Al Jazeera’s Obaida Hitto reported on the continued fighting and intensified strikes in the region.

France 24 reported that the drone attack on the Fujairah oil zone was linked to Iranian origins. The strike on the energy infrastructure adds to the volatility of the Gulf's maritime corridors.
