The first European Political Community summit in Armenia

Fifty world leaders from Europe and Canada have gathered in Armenia for the first-ever European Political and Community (EPC) summit. The event marks a significant diplomatic gathering outside the traditional frameworks of the European Union and NATO.

According to a report by France 24, the summit serves as a platform to address shared security concerns and explore various solutions across a wide array of diplomatic interests. The gathering includes participation from diverse nations, including Canada, as leaders navigate a shifting global landscape.

Dr. Gesine Weber, a Senior Researcher at the Center for Security Studies, spoke about the summit's significance during a discussion with France 24. She described the EPC summit as being "symbolically significant yet structurally limited."

A platform for shared concerns

Weber noted that the summit functions as an informal platform to address common issues, particularly in the context of transatlantic tensions and shifting engagement from the United States. The summit takes place during a period of changing US involvement and the rise of other global powers.

While the gathering highlights new diplomatic pathways, Weber stopped short of claiming the event signals a total shift in global power. She stated that she "would not go as far as interpreting the current dynamics as signs of a ‘new world order'."

The summit's location in Armenia positions the country as a central player in these evolving discussions, acting as a gateway for leaders looking to connect beyond established Western alliances.
