In Osorno's Barrio Lynch neighborhood, a new culinary star has captured the hearts of locals and students alike: the 'sopaipleto.' This creation, which blends a traditional sopaipilla with all the classic hot dog toppings, has become a local favorite, especially on rainy days.
The star of the show is the specialty of 'El Pato,' a local eatery with 26 years of history in the city. According to biobiochile.cl, the business evolved from a conventional fast-food stand into a specialist in oversized sopaipillas.
Patricio Márquez, the owner, explained that the idea was born from a constant drive for kitchen innovation. The final product measures 30 centimeters (about 12 inches) long and is loaded with sausage, avocado, and tomato.
A Creation for the Youth
Márquez noted that his primary goal in developing this giant version was to provide an affordable option. Speaking to Radio Bío Bío, he said he wanted to cater to a specific demographic in the area.
“We’ve always been about inventing and reinventing, so now the specialty features sausage, avocado, and tomato,” the owner said regarding the house specialty.
The entrepreneur also highlighted the impact his invention has had on the local student population. “Everyone loves it; I specifically made it for the youth, for the kids who are sometimes a bit short on cash,” Márquez confessed.
Sales of the snack remain steady during periods of bad weather, with the shopkeeper noting that these large-format sopaipillas are a popular choice for customers throughout the day.
