The revival of 'Malcolm in the Middle,' titled 'Malcolm in the Middle: Life Still Unfair,' has become the most-watched premiere on Disney+ in 2026, according to xataka.com.mx.

Despite mixed reviews from critics, the new miniseries achieved 8.1 million views worldwide within its first three days. This performance translates to approximately 15 million hours of viewership globally, the outlet reported.

Latin American audiences drove much of this success. The region accounted for nearly 50% of the total global views, with 3.6 million views recorded during the premiere weekend alone.

This achievement marks the second-largest premiere in the history of the platform. Only the first season of 'Loki' holds a higher record for an original Disney production.

Cultural connection drives viewership

Analysts suggest the show's popularity in Latin America stems from its relatability. Some viewers noted that the characters shared more common ground with lower-middle-class Mexican families than with their American counterparts.

Many viewers found themselves reflected in the onscreen dynamics, specifically citing the relatable nature of Lois's reprimands. The quality of the Spanish dubbing also served as a decisive factor in the show's regional success, per the report.

In Mexico, the show's legacy was bolstered by long-running broadcasts on Canal 5, which placed the series in prime-time slots for years. This helped cement the idea that the show enjoyed a stronger reception in Mexico than in the United States.

Actor Frankie Muniz previously acknowledged that Mexico holds the largest fan base for the series in the world. The revival has also triggered a massive surge in interest for the original series.

According to Deadline, viewership for the original 'Malcolm in the Middle' episodes increased by 107% following the release of the new miniseries.
