Oscar winner Anne Hathaway has spoken out regarding the historical struggle for freedom of expression in Chile. In an interview with Radio Infinita, the actress noted that many people in the country have paid a heavy price to defend this fundamental right.

Hathaway, who is currently promoting the sequel to "The Devil Wears Prada," was asked by a Chilean journalist about her character, Andy, who works as a reporter in the film. According to biobioch려는.cl, the interviewer's question addressed the challenges of practicing journalism in environments where press freedom is not guaranteed.

The actress acknowledged the gravity of the events that took place in the country. "I have to be mindful that I am speaking with a journalist from Chile, and how gravely freedom of expression has been violated in your country and the price that has been paid for it," Hathaway stated.

A call for unity

The actress avoided offering simplistic messages regarding the situation. She emphasized that the fight for civil rights in Chile has had real consequences for many citizens, making a direct reference to the period of the military dictatorship.

"I don't want to be at all simplistic and say, for example, that we should just keep talking, because I know that so many people in Chile are paying too high a price for fighting for the right to freedom of expression," the star added.

For Hathaway, preserving this right requires a collective effort. The actress urged the audience to maintain social cohesion to protect civil liberties. "So we all have to join forces and stay united in these moments, and truly know which side of history we are on," she concluded.

"The Devil Wears Prada 2" is scheduled to premiere in Latin American theaters on April 30, 2026. In markets such as the United States and Spain, it will arrive on screens on May 1, 2026.
