TECNO officially unveiled its latest mid-range smartphone, the Pova Curve 2, in Mexico this week. The device distinguishes itself with a massive 8,000 mAh battery while maintaining a slender 7.42 mm profile.
The handset weighs just 195 grams, making it significantly thinner and lighter than flagship competitors like the iPhone 17 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. While those premium devices carry batteries roughly half the size of the Pova Curve 2, TECNO has managed to pack nearly double the capacity into a budget-friendly chassis.
Engineering endurance
Industry analysts suggest TECNO likely utilized silicon-carbon battery technology to achieve this density. By storing more energy in a smaller physical space, the company bypasses the traditional bulk associated with long-lasting mobile power cells.
Under the hood, the device runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 7100 chipset. It features 8 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, which can be expanded virtually, and 256 GB of internal storage. The front of the phone is dominated by a 6.78-inch curved AMOLED display with a 144 Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 4,500 nits. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i.
Photography duties are handled by a 50-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel macro lens, while the front-facing camera offers 13 megapixels. The phone ships with HiOS 16, based on Android 16, and the manufacturer promises two generations of Android updates along with three years of security patches.
Despite the massive battery, the charging speed is capped at 45W. This makes the Pova Curve 2 one of the slower-charging devices in the 8,000 mAh category compared to offerings from competitors like POCO and HONOR. However, those competing models typically retail for around 9,000 pesos, positioning the TECNO device as a more accessible option for budget-conscious consumers.
The smartphone includes modern connectivity standards, including 5G, NFC, and Bluetooth 5.4. It also features stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, an under-display fingerprint sensor, and an IP64 rating for dust and water resistance.
TECNO confirmed the device will retail for 5,999 pesos. Sales begin on April 8 exclusively through the company’s official store on Mercado Libre. The phone will launch in three color options: purple, silver, and titanium.
