A woman was wounded by a gunshot on Saturday night at the intersection of Francisco de Aguirre and Balmaceda avenues in La Serena.
The incident occurred on a public street in the Coquimbo region. Police and firefighters arrived at the scene to respond to the emergency following reports of gunfire.
Firefighters provided initial medical assistance at the scene, where volunteers confirmed the victim had sustained a gunshot wound to her left arm.
The woman was rushed to La Serena Hospital for specialized medical care. According to a preliminary medical report, her condition is no longer life-threatening.
Ongoing investigation
The victim provided initial statements regarding the attack. According to gathered evidence, the woman was allegedly shot while purchasing drugs at the location.
The duty prosecutor was notified of the incident and ordered the necessary investigative steps. The investigation to clarify the events has been assigned to the Homicide Brigade of the Investigative Police (PDI).
Meanwhile, Carabineros stated they are coordinating with other security agencies to advance the investigation into this crime in the area.
