The Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción (UCSC) has announced the suspension of all in-person activities at its San Andrés Campus for Tuesday, April 14. The decision follows a shooting threat directed at the university's facilities in the commune of Concepción.

The institution activated its security protocols on Monday afternoon after the alert was detected on campus. In an official statement, the university "categorically" condemned the threat and emphasized the gravity of the situation.

University administration noted that the incident directly impacts the safety of the entire academic community. Consequently, immediate measures have been taken to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff.

Chilean National Police (Carabineros) arrived at the campus to begin a formal investigation. The university confirmed it is currently gathering all available information to hand over to the relevant authorities and assist with the legal process.

Security measures and academic continuity

As part of the preventive closure, classes normally held at the San Andrés Campus will be conducted online this Tuesday. The institution has offered flexibility regarding attendance only for the first two modules of the academic day.

In-person practical activities and scheduled exams at the campus will be rescheduled by university officials. Administrative and teaching staff assigned to this campus have been instructed to work remotely.

UCSC clarified that the impact of this measure is specific to the San Andrés Campus. Academic activities at other locations, such as the Santo Domingo Campus and the Technological Institute, will proceed without disruption.

Similarly, clinical, early, and professional internships conducted outside the affected campus will continue as scheduled. The university urged the academic community to remain calm and to rely solely on official institutional channels for information, assuring that any updates will be communicated promptly.
