Police arrested three men on Thursday night following a high-speed pursuit that spanned several communes across the Santiago Metropolitan Region.
The incident began around 11:15 p.m. when officers attempted to conduct a routine inspection of a vehicle at the intersection of Los Cerezos and Las Torres Avenue in Peñalolén.
During the encounter, the occupants of the vehicle allegedly attempted to run over the police officers and pointed a firearm at one of the personnel.
An officer discharged their service weapon to repel the attack, triggering a chase that moved through the communes of Peñalolén, La Florida, and Macul.
Police confrontation ends in arrests
The pursuit ended at the intersection of Macul Avenue and Víctor Domingo Silva, where authorities intercepted the vehicle and detained the three suspects.
Police identified the detainees as Venezuelan nationals with extensive criminal records.
One of the suspects sustained a gunshot wound to the left leg during the confrontation and was transported to a nearby medical center for treatment.
Lieutenant Francisco Cabezas, patrol officer for the Santiago Oriente Prefecture, confirmed that the suspects were armed.
“These individuals, upon being inspected and detained, were carrying a firearm, which they pointed at our officers,” Cabessas said.
He added that the personnel were forced to use their service weapons, resulting in only minor injuries to the suspect.
