Two individuals, including a 16-year-old, were wounded by gunfire on Sunday night in the Recoleta district following a carjacking. According to reports from BioBioChile, the suspects allegedly stole a Jaguar by intimidating the driver on the General San Martín Highway in the Quilicura district.
According to information provided by North Central Prosecutor Felipe Olivari, the vehicle was later located by Carabineros at the Zapadores emergency clinic, where the 16-year-old was found with a gunshot wound and in possession of the vehicle's keys. The teenager, who had an active arrest warrant, was taken into custody and transported to San José Hospital.
Investigators believe the shooting, which took place at the intersection of Amador Neghme and Justo Pastor Mellado streets—where multiple shell casings were recovered—was a confrontation between rival gangs that occurred while the suspects were traveling in the stolen vehicle.
Minutes later, a second suspect, a 22-year-old man, arrived at San José Hospital with gunshot wounds to his legs. As reported by BioBioChile, he was arrested after his clothing matched the description provided by the carjacking victim. Both detainees have extensive criminal records for similar offenses.
Specialized Carabineros units remain at the scene to clarify the full sequence of events and determine if others were involved in the robbery and the subsequent shootout.
