Seven people were injured after a public bus crashed into a residence in Valparaíso's Cerro Larraín neighborhood. The accident occurred at the intersection of Santa Inés and Santa Justina streets.
The bus, operating on the 509 Barón-Rodelillo route, was traveling through the area when the driver lost control of the vehicle. According to reports from Radio Bío Bío, the bus began rolling backward down the slope until it slammed into the front of a private property.
Captain Claudio Van Den Bosh, of the Third North Precinct, explained the details of the accident. “While dropping off passengers on Santa Inés street, near number 90, the driver fainted and lost control of the bus. Because the area is on a slope, the bus rolled backward and crashed into a private house,” the official stated.
Medical response for the injured
Following the heavy impact, personnel from Carabineros, the fire department, and SAMU (emergency medical services) deployed to the scene to manage the emergency. The bus passengers were the primary victims of the sudden movement.
The fire department reported that all seven injured individuals received immediate care from SAMU paramedics. They were subsequently transported to various local medical centers for further evaluation.
Regarding the driver's legal status, the Carabineros captain confirmed that the driver had all necessary documentation and a valid driver's license.
Once the scene was secured, the bus was removed from the site to restore traffic flow in the area. Municipal and emergency personnel are currently assessing the structural damage caused to the impacted home.
