A series of shooting threats reported on Monday forced the suspension of classes at multiple schools and universities across the Biobío Region. The warnings, which targeted this Tuesday, April 14, appeared on social media and as messages written in the bathrooms of several campuses.
In Talcahuano, Colegio Adventista and Colegio Inmaculada Concepción confirmed they would suspend in-person activities for this Tuesday. Colegio Sagrados Corazones de Hualpén implemented the same measure in response to the identified risk.
Liceo La Asunción in Talcahuano also activated emergency protocols, sending students home on Monday after discovering a shooting threat in one of its bathrooms.
Higher education measures
The Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción (UCSC) announced the closure of its San Andrés Campus for Tuesday, April 14. The university confirmed via an official statement that the measure is a response to a shooting threat detected at the campus on Monday.
"Classes held at the San Andrés Campus will be conducted online, with flexible attendance for the first two modules," the university detailed. The statement also noted that practical activities and exams would be rescheduled.
UCSC reported the matter to the Carabineros. Police arrived at the San Andrés Campus to launch an investigation.
In the city of Concepción, Colegio Juan Gregorio Las Hereas also reported threats for Monday and Tuesday. School officials implemented safety measures and reported the incidents to the Carabineros to clarify the source of the warnings.
