The Party for Democracy (PPD) is organizing a strategic summit for April 25, aimed at redefining its identity and its position within the Chilean center-left. The event seeks to chart the party's future course within the current national political cycle.

The initiative was launched by the internal group “Impulsa PPD,” which is primarily composed of leaders from the party's mid-generation. Key figures will attend, including former ministers Giorgio Jackson and Nicolás Cataldo.

PPD Secretary General José Toro noted that the meeting aims to build a progressive platform with a generational focus. “We hope to lead the party from the perspective of a group that has contributed to the PPD,” the leader stated.

Leadership elections and political renewal

The summit comes at a time of internal reorganization, as the party has scheduled elections for its new leadership board on May 31. This process includes a debate over the party's stance toward the Gabriel Boric administration.

In this context, Representative Raúl Soto is emerging as a leading figure to head a unity list. Soto aims to position the party as a modern force capable of connecting with the public.

“The challenge is to renew the PHD and transform it into a cutting-edge, modern, and forward-looking political party,” the lawmaker declared. According to Soto, the goal is for the party to serve as an engine for rebuilding progressivism in Chile.

The late-April meeting will serve to gather input from former officials and party leaders. The party seeks to establish a common course of action for upcoming electoral challenges and to update its political narrative.
