Carabineros and municipal officials in Temuco intervened in a residence operating as an unlicensed nursing home in the Parque Alcántara sector this Wednesday. Police entered the property after neighbors reported hearing persistent shouting from inside the house.

Upon entry, authorities discovered 18 elderly individuals living in the converted home. Municipal officials immediately ordered the transfer of all residents to local health centers to evaluate their physical conditions.

The city government is currently reviewing whether the facility possessed the mandatory permits to operate as an elder care center. Officials stated that if the home is found to be operating without the required documentation, the property will face permanent closure.

Homicide investigation continues in Villa Florencia

As municipal authorities address the nursing home situation, police in the same region continue an intensive search for a 24-year-old man suspected of murdering 20-year-old university student Francisca Millahual Arriagada. The victim, a second-year veterinary medicine student at Universidad Santo Tomás, was found dead Tuesday in a home in the Villa Florencia sector.

Investigators noted that the victim’s body displayed multiple injuries and a gunshot wound to the chin. The primary suspect is the victim’s uncle, who remains at large despite a coordinated search operation involving multiple police departments.

"Until now there is no clarity about what happened," said Juan Alberto Arriagada, the victim's uncle, who confirmed that his younger brother is the primary suspect. Family members held a wake for the student at a church on the route between Temuco and Cholchol this week, joined by her classmates.

Susana Aguilera, regional director of the National Service for Women and Gender Equity (SernamEG), confirmed that the agency will file a formal complaint regarding the femicide. The government has activated the Intersectoral Coordination Subcommittee on Femicides to streamline the state response to the case.
