A violent attempted robbery occurred this Saturday night in the Vitacura district, resulting in the arrest of one suspect and the launch of an intense police manhunt to track down the remaining members of the gang. The operation involved the Robbery Investigation and Criminal Intervention Brigade (Biroincri) of the Investigative Police (PDI) alongside municipal public safety teams.

Inspector Ricardo Matamala of the Biroincri reported that the group consisted of approximately five masked subjects. The individuals arrived at the front yard of a private residence in a vehicle that, according to initial investigations, had been reported stolen.

The alarm was raised by the housekeeper inside the home, who noticed the intruders and notified authorities. This quick action allowed for an immediate response from public safety teams, who managed to intercept the criminals on-site and successfully apprehend one of them.

Upon realizing the municipal personnel were present, the other members of the gang fled in a panic. During their escape, the suspects fired at least three shots before disappearing in an unknown direction, Inspector Matamala confirmed. Fortunately, despite the gravity of the incident and the use of firearms, no injuries were reported among civilians or officers.

The criminals failed to steal any valuables from the property. Inspector Matamala noted that following the failed robbery, the detained suspect was handed over to the judicial authorities while efforts continue to identify the other four individuals involved.

The PDI is currently analyzing whether this group is linked to other recent crimes in the eastern sector of Santiago. Authorities are investigating whether the suspects belong to a gang known for carrying out 'crime sprees' in the area, and are continuing to conduct forensic analysis and review security camera footage to determine their involvement in similar criminal acts.
