The Parque Metropolitano de Santiago officially launched its second cable car system, known as Teleférico II, providing a new transit route through the city's primary green space. The system connects the Pío Nono entrance near the National Zoo to the Plaza México area, located near the park's summit.
The route spans approximately one kilometer and climbs 180 meters. Passengers can complete the trip in just over seven minutes, providing a continuous transit option for visitors navigating the steep terrain of San Cristóbal hill.
Modernizing Park Infrastructure
The system utilizes modern monocable technology and features 24 panoramic cabins. Operators designed these cabins to provide passengers with unobstructed views of the urban landscape, turning the transit ride into a tourist attraction.
According to park officials, the cable car can transport up to 800 passengers per hour. This capacity is intended to alleviate congestion on traditional park trails and distribute visitor traffic more efficiently across the site, which receives nearly 8 million visitors annually.
The new line includes three stations. The Zoológico Nacional station serves as the starting point, while the Chile Nativo station remains a non-stop transit point. The final stop, Plaza México, offers visitors a view of the machinery room, adding an educational component to the experience.
This infrastructure integrates with the park’s existing transit network, which already includes a funicular and a separate cable car operating from the Pedro de Valdivia entrance. The network expansion aims to modernize how residents interact with the park, blending public transportation with urban recreation.
Turistik manages the daily operations of the new line. The service runs from Tuesday to Sunday, opening at 10:00 a.m. and closing at 7:45 p.m. The park closes the system on Mondays for routine maintenance. Ticket prices for the cable car start at $2,000, depending on the specific access package selected by the visitor.
