Police arrested a man on Tuesday who was wanted for a homicide that took place on March 8 in a residential complex in the Franklin neighborhood of Santiago. The suspect, who was under an active arrest warrant, was located thanks to an anonymous tip from the public.
Officers from the Santiago Fourth Precinct apprehended the suspect in the El Quijote alleyway. According to reports from latercera.com, the operation was carried out after neighbors alerted authorities to his presence in the area.
Dispute over noise complaints
The crime occurred in a residential complex located on Roberto Espinoza Street. According to investigations by Carabineros and the ECOH (Organized Crime and Homicide) Prosecutor's Office, the incident was sparked by a neighborhood dispute involving noise complaints and long-standing grievances between residents.
On the night of the attack, the suspect, identified by the initials A.D.O.D., left his home to confront a neighbor. Following the confrontation, the man opened fire on a residence, leaving one Colombian man dead and two Ecuadorian citizens wounded.
Major Erick Gallardo, of the Santiago Fourth Precinct, noted that the arrest was made possible through community cooperation. “Today, based on information from the public, we were notified that this person of interest, who had an outstanding warrant, was located in the El Quijote alleyway,” the officer stated.
Following his arrest, the suspect was formally charged with one completed homicide and two attempted homicides. The 7th Guarantee Court of Santiago has ordered him to be held in pretrial detention.
Cristián Soto, the prosecutor for the Organized Crime and Homicide (ECOH) unit, confirmed that the motive for the attack was an internal conflict within the building. “This occurred in March due to disputes within a residential complex, stemming from previous issues between the parties involved,” the prosecutor explained.
The investigation, supported by field work from the Carabineros OS9 unit, led to the identification of the shooter. The court has set a 90-day deadline to conclude the investigative proceedings.
