The 7th Guarantee Court has ordered pretrial detention for a man accused of one murder and two attempted murders in the Santiago commune. The incident took place on March 7 inside an apartment complex (cité) on Roberto Espinoza Street, according to biobiochile.cl.
The defendant allegedly used a firearm to attack three foreign nationals. The shooting left one Colombian man dead, while two other men, of Ecuadorian nationality, were wounded during the attack.
The two survivors were transported to the Asistencia Pública hospital, where their medical status remains confidential. After carrying out the attack, the assailant fled the area but was located by authorities several days later.
ECOH investigation
The Organized Crime and Homicide Team (ECOH) led the investigation that led to the identification and arrest of the suspect on Tuesday morning. Investigators believe the motive behind the attack stems from prior conflicts between the parties involved.
ECOH prosecutor Cristián Soto detailed that the incident was the result of internal tensions within the residence. “This occurred in March due to disputes within the apartment complex, stemming from previous issues between the parties,” the prosecutor noted.
Soto specified that the attack was directed specifically at the group: “Because of this, the defendant fired at three people, killing one and wounding the other two,” he stated.
The court has set a 90-day period for the Prosecution to conclude its investigation. The defendant will remain in pretrial detention while criminal liability for the murder and attempted murder charges is determined.
