A 34-year-old man is facing charges of parricide after allegedly stabbing his 65-year-old father at least 43 times in the rural Los Pequenes sector of Talca.

Police arrested the suspect following a violent altercation that moved from inside the victim's home to the street. The suspect is currently in pretrial detention after a local judge ruled him a danger to society.

According to the Talca Local Prosecutor's Office, the attack occurred during the early hours of April 6. The victim was found dead with multiple lacerations, prompting a massive investigation by the PDI's Homicide Brigade and Criminalistics Laboratory.

Prosecutor Jaime Troncoso confirmed the scale of the violence. “It involves a 34-year-old subject who, on April 6, attacked his father with at least 43 stab wounds, causing immediate death,” Troncoso said.

Attempted cover-up

Investigators believe the suspect attempted to stage a robbery to mislead police. He allegedly stole a cell phone and a wallet from the residence to create the illusion of a theft.

To hide his involvement, the man fled the scene with the murder weapon. He later discarded the knife in a waterwheel and burned his clothing in a rural area of Colbún.

Jorge Romero, deputy chief of the Talca Homicide Brigade, stated that forensic evidence directly linked the man to the crime. The laboratory analysis and evidence collection were instrumental in the rapid identification of the suspect.

The crime has shaken the residents of Los Pequenes, a rural area on the border of Talca and San Clemente. Neighbors expressed profound shock at the extreme brutality of the attack.
