Government Calls for Dialogue
On May 28, 2026, the Secretariat of the Interior (Segob), led by Rosa Icela Rodríguez, issued a "respectful appeal" to members of Section XXII of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE), urging them to clear the blockade they have established on the Circuito Interior in Mexico City. The agency encouraged the protesters to prioritize dialogue and consensus-building, while simultaneously reaffirming the constitutional right to peaceful protest.
Impact on Urban Infrastructure
The federal government’s plea emphasizes the direct consequences the protest is having on urban infrastructure. "We call for an end to actions that harm millions of citizens, as well as workers, students, emergency services, and the economic activities that depend on mobility in Mexico City every day," the institution stated in an official release.
Commitment to Institutional Negotiation
Segob reiterated that federal authorities remain fully prepared to hold working sessions with the teachers' union. The agency’s stated goal is to address the sector's demands through institutional channels and mutual understanding, ensuring that conflict resolution does not result in the paralysis of the capital's daily life.
In parallel, the federal government highlighted its close coordination with the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) to maintain open lines of communication. Both agencies expressed their commitment to continuing a "constructive dialogue, based on respect and responsibility," seeking solutions that benefit teachers without compromising the well-being of the general public.
Status of the Protests
The Secretariat of the Interior insisted that institutional negotiation remains the only path toward reaching lasting agreements and preserving democratic coexistence. As of press time, Section XXII of the CNTE has not issued an official response, nor has it announced the withdrawal of the contingents currently obstructing the roadway, despite the call from federal authorities.
