The Chilean government has announced the construction of new social housing projects in high-value areas, including plots in Las Condes and La Dehesa. Minister of Housing and Urbanism Iván Poduje detailed that the initiative aims to relocate hundreds of families to properties managed by the Housing and Urbanization Service (Serviu).
A key focus of the plan is a site on Cerro Colorado street, near Parque Arauco. The Minister noted that the land, which currently hosts a tennis club, is owned by Serviu and will be repurposed for residential use.
“That is on a plot where there is a tennis club; they will be asked to vacate because that is Serviu land, and social housing will be built there,” Poduje explained.

The planning also extends to the commune of Lo Barnechea, specifically in the La Dehesa area near the Nido de Águilas school. In this zone, the government anticipates the arrival of families from Cerro 18 and the Movimiento por la Dignidad.
“We are going to have 500 families from Cerro 18 and the Movimiento por la Dignidad there,” the Housing Minister stated, clarifying that the property was transferred to Serviu during a previous administration.
The housing expansion plan also reaches La Reina and Peñalolén. In La Reina, the land is owned by the Ministry of National Assets and will house both informal settlement committees and members of the Armed Forces.
Poduje revealed that the Ministry of Housing is currently evaluating the implementation of special subsidies for members of the Carabineros (national police) as part of these initiatives.
The Minister also addressed recent media coverage regarding a private event involving President José Antonio Kast at La Moneda. Poduje downplayed the significance of the event, describing it as a matter with no real political impact.
