The body of a man, decapitated and showing clear signs of torture, was found near midnight in the commune of Curacaví. The discovery took place at kilometer 2 of Cuesta Zapata, a rural area where the corpse had been abandoned and partially incinerated.

The gruesome scene was discovered around 11:50 p.m. when a local resident noticed a small fire. Upon approaching to extinguish the flames, the neighbor realized the source of the fire was a human body and immediately alerted authorities, as reported by CNN Chile. According to Cooperativa, the Carabineros police force specified that the discovery was made in the vicinity of the Hacienda San José condominium.

Ongoing investigation

Prosecutor Carmen Gloria Guevara, of the ECOH team, confirmed that the victim is a male who sustained multiple severe injuries. "Upon initial inspection, we can confirm it is a male body that has been decapitated and bound, with an open fracture on one of the limbs," the prosecutor detailed. Additionally, as reported by BioBioChile, the prosecutor confirmed that the body was wrapped in an item that has not been disclosed by the investigation. Cooperativa added that authorities are working under the hypothesis that the crime did not occur at the site where the body was found, and that the attempt to burn the corpse was likely intended to destroy evidence or traces of the perpetrators.

Officers from the Carabineros' OS9 and Labocar units were deployed to the scene overnight to conduct forensic examinations. As reported by CNN Chile, the investigation includes reviewing local security cameras, analyzing potential vehicles involved, and cross-referencing phone data, although no official information regarding ballistic evidence or the use of accelerants has been released thus far.

The Prosecutor's Office is working to determine if the method of execution points to a specific criminal signature. "Work is being done at the scene to search for evidence near the body and on the body itself, to clearly establish the identity and determine if the modus operandi corresponds to what we know as a criminal trademark," Guevara noted.

The case has caused significant concern in the area, as CNN Chile reported that this incident comes only days after another body showing signs of violence was found in the same commune, this time in the Cuesta Barriga sector. Forensic experts have cordoned off the area while they analyze whether the body was transported to the location or if the site of the discovery is the primary crime scene. As of now, the victim's identity has not been established, and no arrests related to the case have been reported.
