A Chinese businessman and his partner were victims of a violent robbery in the underground parking garage of a building on Santo Domingo Street in Santiago. Thieves stole a backpack containing approximately 100 million pesos, which consisted of cash from weekend sales in the Meiggs commercial district.

The incident took place on the third basement level, where the assailants waited to intercept the victims as they were getting into their vehicle. During the heist, the criminals handcuffed the businessman to the car's door handle to prevent any attempt at resistance.

The partner managed to flee the scene and alert the building's concierge to seek immediate assistance. Despite the violence of the attack, authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported.

Investigation Underway

Officers from the 3rd Precinct of the Central Prefecture are leading the investigation to identify the perpetrators. Captain Manuel Salazar, the unit's deputy commander, revealed that the criminals entered the premises an hour before carrying out the robbery.

The officer detailed that the thieves took advantage of a lapse in access control to enter the building. "The building management maintains strict control over those entering, and it has been verified that the individuals entered behind a resident, taking advantage of the gate being left open," Salazar stated.

Police are currently reviewing security camera footage to trace the escape route. Investigators are also working to locate the owner of a vehicle used in the getaway, as the car itself has not been reported stolen.

"We are conducting inquiries to establish contact with the owner to determine if the vehicle was lent or rented," the deputy commander added.

The case remains under investigation to determine if there were any accomplices involved in facilitating access to the parking garage.
